Senior Project Manager – Data Center Projects

Position Summary

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and successful delivery of hyperscale data center projects. This role oversees multiple project phases and disciplines, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, contractual requirements, and client expectations.

The position requires a strong understanding of mission-critical environments, with accountability for schedule, cost, quality, safety, and stakeholder management across the full project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Strategy

• Lead the end-to-end delivery of data center construction projects from preconstruction through to handover.

• Define and implement project execution strategies, resource plans, and delivery methodologies.

• Provide leadership across multidisciplinary teams including MEP, civil, structural, and architectural functions.

• Ensure alignment with client objectives, contract conditions, and company standards.

Governance & Project Controls

• Establish and oversee project governance frameworks, reporting structures, and controls.

• Monitor progress against key KPIs (cost, schedule, quality, safety) and implement corrective actions.

• Manage risk registers, mitigation strategies, and escalation processes.

• Ensure robust documentation, reporting, and compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

Commercial & Financial Management

• Take full ownership of project financial performance including:

o Budgeting and cost control

o Forecasting and cash flow management

o Contract administration and claims management

• Lead negotiations on variations, disputes, and commercial matters.

• Drive value engineering initiatives without compromising performance or reliability.

Stakeholder & Client Leadership

• Serve as the primary senior interface with clients, consultants, and key stakeholders.

• Build and maintain strong client relationships to ensure satisfaction and repeat business.

• Lead executive-level meetings, progress reviews, and strategic discussions.

Design & Technical Oversight

• Oversee design coordination to ensure constructability, efficiency, and compliance.

• Ensure adherence to international data center standards including:

o Uptime Institute Tier classifications

o TIA-942

o ASHRAE, NFPA, IEC requirements

• Provide high-level technical direction across all disciplines, particularly mission- critical infrastructure.

Construction & Delivery Oversight

• Supervise on-site execution through Construction Managers and discipline leads.

• Ensure seamless coordination between all trades and contractors.

• Drive adherence to master project schedule and key milestones.

Testing, Commissioning & Handover

• Oversee commissioning strategies, integrated systems testing (IST), and validation processes.

• Ensure all systems meet performance, redundancy, and reliability requirements of data centers.

• Lead final handover, documentation, and client acceptance phases.

Health, Safety & Quality Leadership

• Champion a robust Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) culture across all project activities.

• Ensure compliance with all safety standards and regulations.

• Drive quality assurance programs and continuous improvement initiatives.

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop project teams including Project Managers, Engineers, and support staff.

• Foster a high-performance, collaborative environment.

• Ensure clear roles, responsibilities, and accountability across the project organization.

Ideal Qualifications & Experience

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent 

Experience

• Minimum 18–20 years of experience in construction/project management.

• Proven track record with main contractors delivering large-scale complex projects.

• Proven experience in data center or mission-critical infrastructure projects is highly preferred.

• Experience managing multiple large-value projects or mega-projects is an advantage.
