SENIOR PIPING DESIGNER

Under general piping design knowledge and experiences, using the project engineering design procedures, standards, and codes to prepare complex engineering and technical drawings and, in some circumstances, generate original designs to depict the layout and equipment arrangement to support the Engineers in conducting their engineering planning, design, and construction work.

Relevant Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years working in an offshore or onshore plant design role in a 2D and 3D CAD design environment and demonstrated proficiency with Auto CAD / Aveva E3D and with material take-off. Knowledge of standard drafting and 3D modeling techniques applicable to the offshore industry.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assisting in accomplishing project design activities in preparing piping layouts, general arrangement, and details in 2D or 3D.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design, 3D modelling, and CAD drafting.
  • Familiarization with Project scope, Specification, and Design criteria.
  • Prepares complete sets of complex engineering drawings, including detailed and fabrication drawings from multiple views.
  • Analyzing complex designs and evaluating equipment systems creates product layouts and generates new designs.
  • Prepares layout design of equipment, components, structures, and systems, using past references where possible and standard designs and drawings, manufacturer’s catalogs, and technical guides.
  • Performs final drafting review to ensure comprehensive dimensional data is provided for engineering or fabrication purposes. Reviews to ascertain accuracy, completeness, and conformance to relevant drafting designs, component weights, and system standards.
  • Prepares documentation, information, and communication such as Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), engineering specifications, design reports, MTO, and required system documentation by relevant policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that the drawings provide dimensional tolerances as required and defined or designed by the manufacturers or Engineers to ensure proper assembly fit.
  • Prepares drawings and presentation slides as part of technical specifications and presentations for a project proposal.
  • Performs administrative duties and design-related tasks such as transferring drawings from computer to printing hardcopy as assigned.
  • Prepares time estimates for review before the commencement of assigned work. When required, compiles and analyzes the data, compute quantities, and determine materials requirement.

  • Deals with engineering and design drawings only. Consults the Engineers of the assigned project where necessary, and in certain cases, seek advice from the Engineering Manager.
  • Refers to drawings and materials from previous projects or standard drawings and prototypes for developing the majority of designs and drawings. May have to come out with new or original designs/drawings for balance work.
  • Has no accountability on budget and monetary matters.
  • Not having accountability on staff matters but required to guide the junior Designers and Drafters.

Work Relationship:

  • Reports to Design Supervisor, who provides support and guidance on resource and corporate matters. On day-to-day work matters, report to the Engineers of the assigned project.
  • Deals frequently with the Engineers of the assigned project and other Lead Engineers, Designers, and Drafters working on the given task.
