The Business Development Manager plays a key role in expanding the company’s renewable energy portfolio and strengthening its commercial position. This role is accountable for creating, managing, and converting a pipeline of utility-scale and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) solar and renewable energy projects, from initial opportunity identification through to deal completion.
The position requires active engagement with clients and partners, identification of new growth avenues, and leadership of business development efforts including market entry, bid coordination, commercial discussions, and transaction finalisation.
Core Responsibilities
Market Development & Revenue Growth
Identify, evaluate, and progress solar and renewable energy opportunities (utility-scale and C&I) across Malaysia and the ASEAN region.
Develop and maintain long-term relationships with government agencies, independent power producers, corporate customers, investors, and strategic partners to support sustained pipeline growth.
Monitor regulatory frameworks, incentive schemes, and policy updates within the renewable energy sector to ensure business strategies remain market-aligned.
Coordinate project feasibility reviews, including land assessments, grid interconnection studies, and financial evaluations, to support investment-ready proposals.
Build and manage partnerships with EPC contractors, financiers, and technology vendors to enable successful project delivery.
Lead bid and tender activities (including LSS and corporate PPA opportunities) and negotiate commercial arrangements such as PPAs, offtake agreements, and leasing structures.
Work collaboratively with internal teams including engineering, legal, finance, and ESG to ensure projects are compliant, commercially attractive, and well-positioned for execution.
Represent the organisation at industry forums, conferences, and networking events to strengthen market presence and industry relationships.
Track and report performance indicators such as pipeline value, installed capacity (MW), revenue outlook, and competitive trends.
Meet or exceed assigned business development and revenue targets.
Internal Coordination & Strategic Support
Contribute to marketing and communication initiatives by providing market intelligence, client insights, and sector trends for campaigns and knowledge-sharing materials.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior business development and sales team members to enhance their understanding of solar project development and client engagement.
Ensure effective handover of secured projects to delivery teams, maintaining continuity and alignment with contractual and client requirements.
Stay informed on competitor activities and emerging renewable technologies, including floating solar PV and battery energy storage systems, to support strategic planning.
Support ESG and sustainability initiatives by tracking carbon reduction performance, environmental impact, and stakeholder value across project portfolios.
