Role Overview:
The Engineering Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the Malaysia-based Engineering team, primarily composed of Application Design Engineers. This team handles the design and technical documentation of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems throughout the project lifecycle—from the handover by Sales to final delivery.
In this role, you will lead, support, and develop the team to meet customer expectations regarding quality, cost, timely delivery, and satisfaction. You will also play a key role in improving departmental processes, especially those aligned with the requirements of the Oil & Gas (O&G) sector.
As a member of the Engineering Leadership Team, you will work closely with the Head of Engineering on strategic initiatives and internal projects, while also participating in SIM and cross-departmental coordination meetings.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Management & Leadership
Plan, assign, and manage team workloads and project deliverables
Support team members in their career development through coaching, performance feedback, and goal-setting
Provide technical mentorship, share best practices, and drive continuous improvement
Identify training needs and facilitate internal or external training sessions
Manage team budget and resource allocation
Lead recruitment efforts in collaboration with HR and the Head of Engineering
Operational & Process Excellence
Ensure adherence to customer and market-specific engineering standards
Coordinate with Project Management and Scheduling teams to align engineering deliverables with project timelines
Contribute to the improvement of engineering tools, processes, and procedures
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Strong leadership and team management capabilities
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proven project management experience
Problem-solving mindset and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Fluency in English, both written and spoken
Cross-cultural awareness and experience working in global teams
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
In-depth knowledge of UPS systems
Familiarity with EPLAN and SAP
Experience in handling international projects
