Job Responsibilities:

 

• The Head of Engineering manages and oversees all engineering projects or activities to ensure achievement of project requirements and compliance with industry benchmarks, technical standards, and applicable codes and regulations for projects as they go through the development, contracting, tender, and construction stages.

 

• Directs the creation and determination of feasibility studies, risk assessments, single line diagrams, energy yield assessments, interconnection agreements, technical evaluation, and value engineering initiatives among others to achieve optimal engineering solutions to improve plant yield taking into consideration meteorological cycles and transmission efficiencies.

 

• Leads the preparation and review of engineering deliverables including technical specifications, drawings, calculations, reports, S-Curves, time extension and variation order reviews, employers’ requirements, project parameters, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and cohesiveness of the outputs of the members of the engineering team

 

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project management, procurement, construction, and operations, to establish project objectives, schedules, and budgets. Leads the Engineering team in delivering the technical portions of the requests for proposals and employers’ requirements for consultancy, equipment purchase, and construction works to support a project. Supports Procurement on technical clarification discussions with vendors.

 

• The Head of Engineering is expected to keep abreast with the latest technological trends and advancements and promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the Engineering department, translating advancements in technical skills to contribute towards improved project specifications

 

• Skills should include and not limited to:

o PVSYST simulation. Understanding and recommending the simulation parameters for running PVSYST and interpreting the output

o Accessing weather and meteorological databases and understanding the relevance and applicability of using one dataset over the other.

o High level system sizing with a view to optimise projects costs and plant yields

o Designing for erectability, Asset management and HSE

o Understanding, interpreting and validating tech specs of major equipment and approve the same. Ability to work cross-functionally with procurement, asset management and project management, sit thorough vendor negotiations and work with OEMs and Vendor to finalise specs/GTP of the equipment for solar and wind projects.

o Special focus on design and implementation of BoP of solar projects – with an emphasis on loss reduction, yield optimisation and cost consciousness

o Knowledge and evidence of testing and commissioning activities of solar and Wind plants.

o Strong understanding of industry standards, codes, and regulations

 

• Performs tasks that require original concepts and a high level of experience and expertise.

• Provides expertise and leadership leading to the successful completion of assigned projects on cost and time.

• Leads teams or other small groups with special expertise in a particular field or discipline.

• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Your Skills:

• Must have a Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering. Must be a licensed engineer

• Have at least 10 years of leadership working experience in the engineering/Project management function involving power evacuation systems, OR power distribution systems OR solar/Wind plants.

• Experience leading the design and specification of complex engineering systems that are part of solar and wind plants

• Strong understanding of E&C processes for renewable project development and construction of solar projects

• Outstanding verbal, written, and organizational skills with strong executive presence. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, utilizing technical expertise as well as business acumen to lead cross-functional teams and manage external stakeholders (i.e. technical advisors, consultants, etc).

• Proven capability to identify and implement cost savings initiatives to improve capital efficiency.

• Strong people manager able to manage team workload, go-getter, able to inspire a culture of innovation and productivity
