Senior Subsea Structural Engineer
About the Role
- Lead and support design teams across multiple projects, ensuring tasks stay within budget and schedule.
- Coordinate with different disciplines, project teams, clients, and suppliers to ensure smooth project execution.
- Identify and communicate changes in project scope, preparing the necessary documentation and cost estimates.
- Manage the technical design scope, ensuring designs meet quality standards, technical requirements, and deadlines.
- Support the lead engineer in delivering subsea engineering work for proposals and projects.
- Provide expert engineering solutions for subsea systems, covering design, construction, installation, and operations.
- Carry out and oversee structural design and analysis, mentoring junior engineers as needed.
- Use industry-standard engineering software (e.g., SACS, ABAQUS) for structural analyses.
- Develop designs following recognized codes and standards (e.g., DNV, ISO, API, ASME) and client requirements.
- Deliver key project outputs, including design reports, drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical submissions.
- Review technical documents to ensure compliance and performance of subsea applications.
- Participate in internal, client, vendor, and project meetings.
- Contribute to improving in-house design tools and methods.
- Uphold safety and legal standards, and actively support quality and safety initiatives.
- Guide, mentor, and help develop junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and track subsea engineering work to meet budget and schedule goals.
- Work closely with lead engineers, project managers, and other disciplines to ensure timely delivery of drawings and reports.
- Apply deep knowledge of structural design codes; familiarity with piping is an advantage.
- Use tools like Microsoft Office, MathCad, and ideally AutoCAD.
- Apply strong analytical and simulation skills to solve engineering problems.
- Communicate effectively, stay organized, and contribute positively as a team member.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the subsea engineering team.
- Be innovative and ready to tackle challenges beyond the core job.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred), with at least 5 years’ experience.
- Experience leading FEED and detailed design for subsea and pipeline structures; exposure to offshore pipeline engineering is a plus.
- Familiarity with SPS (Subsea Production Systems) and/or SURF (Subsea Umbilicals, Risers, and Flowlines) equipment is desirable.
- Background in subsea field development and concept studies is beneficial.
- Skilled in industry software (e.g., SACS, Autopipe); experience with ABAQUS or similar FEA tools is a plus.
- Strong experience providing technical support and mentoring within engineering teams.
